Reviving old skool music

Masawi, a broadcaster of repute in his own right, they have been traversing through the length and breadth of Zimbabwe promoting the music genre.

Tonight they will be wheel spinning at Adrienne’s Restaurant in Belgravia.
“Whilst we are not resistant to change, old skool remains engraved in the minds of many.
“It constantly reminds them of their youthful days,” said Kaycee.

Since his arrival, Kelvin — who is on his annual holiday — has featured at a welcome party held at ZimCafe Hotel & Conference Centre igniting old school love.

The United Kingdom-based veteran deejay, who specialised in soul and R‘n’B music on the then Radio 3 now Power FM, arrived in Harare in December and will be around until end of January.

“Yeah man! I feel honoured and looking forward to the party. I just want to let everyone know that ‘Kedza’ is back and I hope we will have a good time.

“I will try to make my game tight by mixing old skool and some new skool stuff. So it is going to be some serious partying.”

True to his word, he has managed to revive old school music in Zimbabwe.
“The Soul Supreme”, still commands a huge following on the club scene.
Many of his fans are ardent listeners of his radio show dubbed “The Saturday Late Night Soul Selections”.

He is also known for popularising the club banger called “Let the Beat Hit Them” by Lisa Lisa which he played as his signature tune.

Sifelani has joined the leaders in old skool — Huggies Entertainment — which boasts veterans in the genre, such as Kudzi “Mr Kool” Marudza, Witness “Chuman” Matema, Ronald “D-Train” Chiwanza, Webster “DJ Webber” Brandy and DJ Candy.

All the DJs on the line-up have years of experience in filling up the dance floors and rocking the masses.

The last time “The Soul Supreme” was in the country he literally left some fond memories with music lovers failing to get enough of soul music.

He got massive support during his farewell gigs and he promised to return. And now that he is back together with Huggies Entertainment, the likes of Mr Kool, who is a legend in his own right, the fans are spoilt for choice.
