RGM Airport almost complete

The Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) says expansion works at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport should be completed by June, as engineers are currently finalising the installation of equipment.

The modernisation of the airport is in line with the Government’s thrust to rehabilitate aviation infrastructure across the country as it seeks to attract more international airlines and passengers. ACZ development manager, Shamiso Makova, said refurbishment of the current terminal building would also be completed by year end.

“We extended the current terminal building for both arrivals and departures. That part of the construction is now at 97 percent complete.

“We should be done by the end of June this year, then we are going to refurbish the current terminal buildings and that should be done by December 2023. We completed the runway works because there used to be noise about lighting on our runway, so we have completed the process,” she said. She said they had plans to develop the airport according to international standards.

“We have a new small car park in our arrivals area that is currently under construction. It is our hope that by June, the car park will be ready. We are also installing two self-checking cubicles just like what is done in the rest of the world,” she said.
