RESURGENT Black Rhinos continued with their impressive with a key and yet hard-fought top of the table Northern Region Soccer League victory over Agama at Pfura yesterday.

With log leaders N’ombeyawora having edged fourth-placed Golden Eagles 1-0 at Ellis Robins on Wednesday, pressure was on both Rhinos and Agama to win to stay within touching distance of the flamboyant pacesetters.

And Rhinos who have hit a purple patch kept their unbeaten run intact with Tatenda Mchisa’s first-half strike enough to hand them the precious points on the road.

That Agama rarely lose at home also put into perspective the significance of the Rhinos which helped them move to within a point behind the Mt Darwin side and five behind Nesbert “Yabo’’ Saruchera’s N’ombeyawora.

The soldiers will also remain buoyant as they are the only team in the league still to taste defeat, having 7 of their 14 matches and drawn as many.

Mchisa, one of the seasoned players at Rhinos expressed his delight as scoring the goal that made all the difference.

“I am happy with the goal. It was a long wait for me to be here today, but finally, it happened,” he said.

“It wasn’t easy playing against Agama, but we emerged the better side and walked away with all the points.”

Despite being tipped as pre-season favourites, Rhinos have found themselves in third place after a somewhat sluggish start to the title race.

But they seem to have found their groove.

Defeat must have hurt Agama coach Arthur Tutani who has seen his side fail to cling on to top spot which they had seemed to seize when they beat N’ombeyawora.

But for Mchisa and Rhinos, yesterday’s win keeps them optimistic that this could be the year they could bounce back to the Premier Soccer League.

“I am grateful to the coaches who are helping us improve. There’s still a lot to play for, and the season is a marathon,” Mchisa said.
