Rhinos take top spot

But on Saturday, the Harare bankers surrendered that position to seasoned campaigners Black Rhinos.

Ironically, La Liga were not playing Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera’s Rhinos but it needed the brave exploits of another army side – Commando – on Saturday. Lowly Commando upstaged La Liga 1-0 at One Commando with Nqobile Mafu’s solitary strike settling the game. The result saw Rhinos taking over as log leaders with 35 points despite Saruchera’s soldiers being restricted to a 0-0 draw by DC Academy.

While Rhinos rose, La Liga slipped into third place.
Resurgent Highfield United continued with their winning ways when they beat BACA 2-1 at Tsungubvi in Glendale on Saturday.
Highfield found their goals through former Hwange midfielder Fortune “Fokoza” Ncube and Boban Zirintusa while BACA replied through Cuthbert Gwaze. BACA assistant coach Tonderai Kapinde commended his charges for a good performance despite losing.

“It was a good game, the guys played well. It’s only that we failed to utilise the chances we got in the first half especially in the first 15 minutes,” said Kapinde.
Highfield could, however, go top of the table if their disputed game against Cossy Rules is ruled in their favour.

The fate of the game will now be decided by the disciplinary committee after Cossy Rules disputed claims that they failed to turn up for the game.
In the Eastern Region pacesetters Buffaloes stretched their lead to 12 points when they dismissed their rivals Hippo Valley 1-0.
