INTERNATIONAL rhumba giant Koffi Olomide is set to return to the local music stage with a show pencilled for the Odyssey Hotel in Kadoma early next year.

The last time Olomide visited the country was in 2021, when he did a collaboration with Rockford “Roki” Josphat on the hit song “Patati Patata”.

Prince Mharadze, of Odyssey Events, confirmed that the much-loved rhumba artiste is, indeed, coming to the mining town.

“We have set April 15 as the provisional date. I want to assure rhumba fans that Koffi is, without any doubt, coming to Kadoma,” Mharadze said.

He said a music “revolution” is taking place in Kadoma.

“We recently brought South African artistes Makhadzi and DJ Tira to Kadoma. Now, we are bringing Koffi. Gone are the days when international stars would only perform in Harare and Bulawayo,” Mharadze said.  Odyssey Events, which is an offshoot of 2 Kings Entertainment, seeks to motivate upcoming musicians in Kadoma by exposing them to international stars.

“We are now turning the tables. Kadoma is now the place to be. We have a number of upcoming artistes in this town and these youngsters need inspiration and motivation. Bringing big stars will definitely motivate them,” added Mharadze.

Mharadze said Odyssey Events is capable of organising such a big event.

“We are not really new in this game. I worked behind the scenes when 2 Kings Entertainment brought Makhadzi to Kadoma. We will deliver,” he said.

Rhumba music still has a large following in Zimbabwe. Born Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba, Koffi Olomide has a large following in Zimbabwe.
