DENVER Mukamba has challenged Dynamos’ young players to make a name for themselves on Sunday in the Harare Derby at the National Sports Stadium.
Mukamba’s absence was felt last Sunday when the Glamour Boys saw their four-game unbeaten run end at the hands of Bulawayo Chiefs.
He was nursing an injury, which he picked last week at training, and is returning to action at the right moment.
In his last Harare Derby appearance, in DeMbare colours in 2018, he scored the solitary goal to power them to a 1-0 victory.
Mukamba said he is now playing the fatherly figure role in hyping the younger players in the Dynamos camp.
“We have a youthful side and, for someone like me who has played this fixture countless times, I have a role to emphasise the importance of avoiding unnecessary pressure on the youngsters.
“I remember when I first played such a game, I received strong words of encouragement from players like Murape (Murape) and (Desmond) Maringwa who had seen it all.
“Games like these can change one’s life because people are always expecting their team to win and these games can help you get a foreign breakthrough as well as a national team call-up under normal circumstances.”
Takunda “Kante” Sharihwa has shone for DeMbare in midfield while Tendai Matindife has shown glimpses of promise in attack.
Mukamba said he has reserved something special for the fans.
He reiterated that he was not affected by what his critics say about his career.
“I still have a lot to offer but I can’t promise much but I want to guarantee something special for those who are coming to watch this derby.
“I know that there are a lot of people who like to talk about negative things when it comes to me but it’s something that doesn’t affect my performance because I know how to handle such people.
“But, I also take a few things from their words to try to correct my mistakes, that’s why I don’t entirely ignore them because they always have something productive.”
