In the entertainment world, young talents have consistently made waves, particularly in Hollywood.

From Disney Channel stars to pop music sensations, countless children have transformed their passion into successful careers, proving that age is no barrier to achieving dreams.

Zimbabwe is no exception.

As the saying goes, “The apple does not fall far from the tree”.

This is especially true for 10-year-old Alisha Makombe, a United Kingdom-based Zimbabwean singer following in the footsteps of her mother, Eleana, a renowned gospel musician.

With her humble gospel roots, Alisha is stepping into the spotlight, having released her debut single, “Muri Mwari,” under the guidance of seasoned producer Macdonald Chidavaenzi, affectionately known as Mcdee.

The magic happened when Alisha visited the studio with her mother, busy with her recordings.

That’s when her passion ignited.

“Alisha started tapping her feet, nodding to the beats, and suddenly danced to the tune. Next thing, she said, ‘I also want to record,'” Mcdee recalls.

“From the moment I started recording her mother over five years ago, Alisha has stood out as a remarkable talent. Even at just five years old, she could flawlessly imitate her mom’s songs, capturing every word and note with astonishing precision,” he said.

“It was clear to me that this gift was special. As her parents, Eleana and John Makombe, recognised her potential, they knew it was time to nurture her talent. After a long and patient journey since 2018, 2024, marks the exciting start of Alisha’s own career. I am continually amazed by the confidence and skill she exudes at just 10 years old. The sky truly is the limit for her!”

In an interview, Alisha shared, “Music is my passion, nurtured by my mom. She shows me that with hard work and faith, anything is possible.”

This sentiment echoes the experiences of many young musicians today, who find their voices through their art. Alisha’s story highlights the power of music in children’s lives, offering an outlet for creativity and connection. “Muri Mwari” is more than just a song; it’s a declaration of her Christian faith, inspired by her belief in a supreme God who heals and delivers.

“With my producer’s help, we wrote this song so people know that God is always there for us,” she explains. “Mcdee has taught me so much about music and how to express myself. I can’t wait to create more songs!”

This message is especially significant in a world where children face many challenges.

Through her music, Alisha hopes to inspire others to stay strong in their faith and appreciate their blessings. The importance of music in children’s development cannot be overstated.

Engaging with music enhances cognitive skills, emotional intelligence, and social interactions.

For young musicians like Alisha, creating and performing music fosters a sense of accomplishment and boosts self-confidence.

“When I sing, I feel happy and free,” she says.

“It’s like I can share my heart with everyone.”

Her single has already created a buzz on social media, celebrated not only for its uplifting message but also for its catchy melody and genuine delivery.

Not to be ignored, she is a fantastic dancer, reflecting the enthusiasm of many young artists eager to explore new genres.

With dreams of becoming both a doctor and a singer, Alisha embodies the resilience and ambition that define young talents everywhere.

She recognises the importance of balancing her studies with her passion for music, stating, “I want to help people as a doctor and inspire them with my songs.”

In a world that often overlooks the voices of children, Alisha shines brightly as a beacon of hope and creativity. Through her music, she not only shares her faith but also encourages other young people to pursue their dreams.
