Road to fame fever grips Masvingo

The best group will walk away with prizemoney and also get a chance to represent the province in Harare for a much tougher competition with other nine groups.

The national winner in Harare will clinch a recording contract in addition to the monetary prize.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) said they have completed the registration of 10 musical groups from Masvingo province and all was set for the provincial finals to be held at Farai Beerhall in Mucheke suburb.

Winners of the 2006 Chibuku Road to Fame, Chuka Trinity from Mashava will be the guest performers where a capacity crowd is expected.

NACZ regional director Hellen Mudefu said a panel of professional judges has already been identified, adding that winners would have to prove originality in music played, message and have stage presence.

“We have completed the registration of 10 best groups from the districts which will battle it out at provincial finals this week.

“Hopefully they will all make it to the venue on the day.

Some groups ended up failing to make it last year due to challenges related to transport and my hope this time around is that no group will face a similar problem,” Mudefi said.

Chibuku Road to Fame competitions which are held annually have proved to be an ideal platform for up-and-coming artistes to prove their worth in the arts industry.

She said the groups normally display polished performances as they viewed the competition as their gateway to stardom.

“Generally the competition is very stiff. One can tell that the groups make thorough rehearsals before they come to the competition because all their performances will be mouth watering”.
