Robber gets 4 years for brutal attack on sleeping couple

A man has been sentenced to four years in prison by the Mount Darwin Magistrates’ Court after being convicted of robbery.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), Phillip Muchapambwa (42) pleaded guilty to the charges after he and his accomplices stormed the home of Tirivanhu Madenyika and his wife while they slept, armed with wooden logs and a knife, demanding cash.

“The victim surrendered USD300 from under his pillow. His wife handed over USD150 but was still beaten and threatened with a knife. The robbers ransacked the house and stole two cellphones, an Itel A90 and Itel A14,” reads the statement.

Muchapambwa was arrested by police detectives at an illegal mining site in Masasa, Mazowe, with the stolen phones and USD160 recovered from his possession.
