A FORM-FOUR pupil will miss his November examinations after he was sentenced to six months in jail for assault and robbery. Nkosana Moyo was with an accomplice, Ntabiso Nkala, when they assaulted and robbed Ms Daphne Nyathi from Nkulumane Suburb of a Nokia Asha cell phone. Nkala was jailed for three months for the attack on Ms Nyathi when she was going home.

Moyo had a three-month sentence which was previously suspended last month after he stole another cell phone added to the latest sentence to bring the jail term to six months.

Moyo, a pupil at Nkulumane High School and Nkala, who are both aged 18 and live in Nkulumane suburb, committed the crime on July 31 at around midnight near Bullet Shopping centre in the suburb.

Magistrate Stephen Ndhlovu said he was disappointed with the teenagers’ conduct.

“I’m very disappointed in you. You have committed the same offence. It is barely a month since you were here, and you are here again. The company that you keep determines the fate of your future. You refuse to repent, you are back. This time I’m sending you to prison. Perhaps some jail time will help you to reform and face reality,” said Ndhlovu.

Prosecuting, Kenneth Shava said the duo hit Ms Nyathi with a bottle of beer on the forehead and snatched her cellphone.

Ms Nyathi was injured and reported the matter at ZRP Nkulumane.
