THREE churches were hit by robbers in Harare this week with the suspects even stealing US$26 from a security guard, who was manning one of the premises.
Lutheran Church, along Eastwood Road in Avondale, Avondale AFM in Zimbabwe and The United Methodist Inner City Circuit along Harare Street, were hit by the robbers.
The United Methodist Inner City Circuit lost US$1 700.
At Lutheran Church, Tinashe Tondo, 32, woke up on Monday and noticed that the robbers had used an unknown object to unlock the chain which is used to secure the main church door.
The robbers ransacked the offices and stole a cash box containing US$3 000.
On the same day, in the same suburb, a security guard manning AFM in Zimbabwe was approached by four men who were armed with iron rods, at around 8am.
The robbers manhandled the guard, tied his hands and legs and dragged him to the office area.
“They asked him to show them the cashier’s office and he showed them an office which he knew had an alarm linked to a Security Company response team.
“The moment they forced open the door, using an iron rod, the alarm went off, alerting security personnel who responded.
“The accused persons searched the security guard and stole US$26 and a Huawei cell phone before fleeing,” said Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza.
