FIVE men yesterday appeared in court for allegedly tying a Herentals College security guard with shoelaces before stealing a laptop and a safe containing $154 from the administration block.
Taurai Dzingai (46), Trust Mabhuku (32), Benjamin Musasa (28), John Gore (35) and Lameck Munyanyi were charged with robbery when they appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe.
They were remanded in custody to today for their bail ruling.
The five had earlier on told the court that they were assaulted by police upon being arrested.
“We have complaints against the police because on the day we got arrested we were brutally assaulted under the feet with button sticks and they also forced us into a sewage dam where they were searching for the safe,” Dzingai said.
Allegations are that on May 5, the five, together with their accomplice, Leon Chakanetsa, who is still at large, connived to rob Herentals College in New Mabvuku.
The court heard that in pursuit of their plan, the six proceeded to the college where they man-handled a security guard before tying him with shoe laces.
It is the State’s case that the six proceeded to the college’s administration block where they forced open the door and stole an Acer laptop and a safe containing $154.
A report was made to police leading to their arrest.
