Robbers strike Beitbridge truck port Beitbridge Reporter TWO men raided a Beitbridge Town Council truck port where they attacked a foreign truck driver and tied a security guard’s hands and went on rob them of cellphones and money, police said yesterday.

The Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, said the incident occurred on Friday at about 3am.

“Two men went to a truck port in Beitbridge and attacked a security guard who was manning the premises. They tied his hands and force-marched him to a nearby bush area where they also tied his legs using a rope,” he said.

They searched the complainant and took three cell phones, R100 and $6.

“The two suspects went back to the truck port where they pounced on a Congolese truck driver. They assaulted him before forcing him to open the doors of his truck and took a cell phone, R1 500, a driver’s licence and a passport,” said Insp Dzirutwe.

Soon after committing the offence, the two men fled from the scene.

The security guard was, however, assisted by truck drivers who untied him and a report was made to the police.

Insp Dzirutwe said the suspects are still at large.

“We have since launched a manhunt for the two suspects.

“As police we are also appealing to members of the public to assist us with information that could lead to the arrest of the two men,” said the police spokesperson.
