A GANG of armed robbers pounced at a house in Luveve suburb, assaulted and robbed an elderly man of his property after using a woman to knock and ask to see his daughter to entice him.

Timothy Sibanda (64) who stays alone at his house told B- Metro that while he was watching evening news after 8pm on 01 December a lady knocked on the kitchen door.

Sibanda said the lady asked to see his late daughter who died three years ago and during the conversation, the lady told Sibanda that she left her husband at the gate.

“In the middle of the conversation, to my shock two unknown men entered the house, they never greeted me. One of the guys was carrying a hammer while the other was carrying a knife,” he said.

He added: “The guy who was carrying a knife grabbed me by the neck while demanding cash. I tried to resist but he choked me while twisting my neck. The other guy hit me on the forehead with a hammer and then hit me on the knees causing me to tumble on the floor.”

The robbers, Sibanda said, were not done with him as they dragged him to his bedroom where they tied his hands to his bed with a shredded T -shirt. They searched his trousers and took US$30 and $100.

Sibanda said the trio took his property and fled with it in their getaway car.

“They took my Samsung Plasma TV, blankets, plates, HD decoder, a Samsung radio with speakers and two Samsung cell phones. They loaded all the property into the vehicle and drove off,” he said.

Seeing that they had fled he called his neighbours and they untied him. He reported the matter to the police.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and urged the public not to open doors for strangers during the night and to be on alert especially during the festive season.
