Police have arrested a 29-year-old suspected armed robber who was part of a gang that has been terrorising people in and around Gokwe.
Bruce Dzungu (29) of Zharare Village under Chief Nemangwe’s area is facing charges of robbery and unlawful entry into premises.
Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson, Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said the suspect is linked to robbery and unlawful entry cases that occurred on November 30 and on February 22, 2026.
“The suspect, acting in connivance with Handson Mapurisa (32), Thulani Ndbele, and another one only identified as Aaron, forced open a door and gained entry into a complainant’s house,” said Detective Inspector Muteweri.
Mapurisa is currently serving a jail term at Gokwe Prison, while Ndebele and Aaron are still at large.
“The suspects allegedly attacked the complainant with logs and sjamboks all over the body, causing him to lose consciousness.
“They then ransacked the house and stole two Samsung cellphones, solar panels and other valuables before fleeing from the scene,” she said.
In a separate incident that occurred in Mapfungautsi, Gokwe, the suspects allegedly took advantage of the complainant’s absence and searched around the premises. They found house keys that were hidden under a doormat.
The suspects used the keys to unlock the door and entered the house. They ransacked the premises and stole ZAR10 000, US$3 265 and other valuables.
Detectives conducted investigations, leading to the arrest of Handson Mapurisa and the recovery of a Samsung A04 cellphone belonging to one of the complainants.
Mapurisa implicated Bruce Dzungu as one of his accomplices, leading to his arrest.
Meanwhile, police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of Ndebele and Aaron.
