In the overs format and Four-Day games, Masvingo is expected to rise to the occasion and claim the scalps of cricket giants in the country.
Houghton is a former national team captain who has also coached the national side. He coaches Derbyshire County Cricket team in England during the Zimbabwean winter and has promised to turn the fortunes of the popular team. He brings with him two young Derbyshire County professional cricketers, Peter Burgoyne and Malcolm Slater to bolster the squad.
The team has welcomed three new players from other clubs into their fold and they are expected to play a pivotal role in the new season.
The new players are Bernard Mlambo from Mountaineers and two former national team players, Trevor Garwe from Mashonaland Eagles and Tawanda Mupariwa.
Phillips said the team had kept faith in other cricketers that did duty for the side last season and there were no injuries to worry about.
“The 16-man squad includes Chamunorwa Chibhabha, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, Richard Mutumbami, Hillary Matanga, Tinashe Panyangarara, Stanley Marisa, Robert Chinyengetere, Samuel Mwakayeni, Tendai Chisoro and Tafadzwa Munyaradzi.
“We have a busy schedule starting this Saturday,” said Phillips.
