Their eviction on Tuesday evening has been received with mixed feelings with some fans blaming the Zimbabwean drama queen and others laying the blame on both.
Maneta poured bleach on Roki’s face in retaliation after he poured water over her head. Their altercation contravened the provocation rule and the two were immediately disqualified.
This is the first time Zimbabweans have been disqualified from the game.
Thereafter Facebook was awash with comments mainly blaming Maneta for the demise of Roki, while others, especially Zimbabweans, said they were embarrassed by the behaviour of the pair.
There were 1 178 comments on the Big Brother StarGame page within an hour after the announcement.
The social networks were filled with name-calling directed at Maneta calling her a sell-out because she knew that she was going to be evicted this week and wanted to go down with Roki.
Others argued that it was Roki’s fault as he was always on her case after she turned him down.
Chronicle Entertainment went to the streets of Bulawayo to hear the reactions from followers of Big Brother.
Some said Maneta, who most loved to hate, played Roki the darling of the show, while others said Roki had it coming.
“It is simple Maneta played Roki. She fully understood the provocation rule and she used it to her advantage. If Maneta was going down she was not going alone and Roki was her victim. They are equally to blame, it is a shame for Zimbabwe,” said Webster Sibanda from Luveve.
Another resident, Nobuhle Bafana, from North End said it was futile to start pointing fingers and finding fault as the nation had already suffered embarrassment.
“This showed the whole of Africa a picture of disunity among Zimbabweans with all the back stabbing in the house between our representatives. At the end of the day we may say Maneta this or Maneta that but Zimbabweans have been painted with the same brush by these two,” said Bafana.
These are some of the comments about the two Zimbabweans’ eviction on the Big Brother StarGame website.
Thobekile Julia Nyathi Musungwa, Townsend High School, Bulawayo: As a Zimbo! all I can say is that Maneta is a disgrace to all Zimbabweans!
Catherine Onokpasa Omotehinse: I am not surprised at all because a house that is divided cannot stand . . . Roki and Maneta are both Zimbabwean yet they could not show true nationalism by working together in achieving their goal, which is the money . . . It is quite unfortunate that Roki has failed to read people . . . By now he will be wiser that. Life is indeed a struggle, it only takes the wise, meek and patient to get to the top . . . Maneta should also learn to control her emotions and above all change her character for good.
Mercy Moyo, Top commenter: This is a bit unfair of Big Brother. Keagan threw buckets of water on Eve and Junior, he broke Big Brother’s cameras, lights but nothing was done about his violent behaviour, just because Maneta and Roki have thrown water and detergents to each other without breaking anything of Biggie they get disqualified. If the producers of this show are not careful this show is going to be a flop like Big Brother UK, look at the amount of unplanned exits that have happened so far Ola, Chris, Esparanca, Seidou, Zaineb, DKB, Roki and Maneta, tell us how they plan to fill in for these unplanned exits. They are just playing with our minds, they know the winner of this show already, nxa, I am no longer watching.
Tolulope Elegbeji-Badero, O.O.U. ’01, UNILAG ’09: Maneta had her issues no doubt she did not drag Roki down. Roki obviously had issues with her because she turned him down and he also felt she was competing with him coming from the same country and knowing she was saved by Africa to come to Upville. Roki bullied her to no end and he constantly tried to make her look bad to viewers and Zimbabweans by exaggerating everything she said especially about Zim in order to portray her in a very negative light and blew everything she said out of proportion. He never had anything good to say about her and even poisoned other people against her. Maneta was never a favourite of mine but she tried avoiding Roki the best way she could. if Prezzo had not been saved or Roki was up for nomination just imagine how paranoid they would have been and what they could have done.
Suzzan Moore· Douala, Cameroon: U ar such a gud analyst. Roki is such a bad rep, constanly trying 2 bring down his fellow ctry mate, just compare them to Wendell and Vimbai.
Meanwhile, in a statement the Big Brother producers said they had organised for Roki and Maneta to be provided with psychological and medical treatment and counselling to assist them with conflict and anger management.
Now Zimbabwe awaits for Maneta and Roki’s return to explain their shameful actions to the nation for being the worst Zimbabwean contestants so far.
