Kudakwashe “Takemoney” Chiwandire says she has a rollercoaster of emotions ahead of her mandatory fight against Mexican champion Yamileth Mercado.
Take Money is the first Zimbabwean to challenge for the prestigious World Boxing Council gold belt and is on the verge of making history.
She said fighting away from home brings her less pressure compared to fighting on home soil.
“The feeling is good and sometimes bad,” she told H-Metro.
“When you reach a level that no one has been before at times you will have some fear and at times you will be happy, but after all, it’s something great for me as no one has ever done that.
“I am also proud of myself as a woman to have reached that level as no man has done it, so I have already surpassed expectations.
“I had never seen myself as a world champion before, but with the hard work I have put in now, I am here celebrating the fruit of my sweat,” she said.
“Fighting on home soil and fighting outside the country are different. Outside the country, no one will be shouting at you and you will be fighting your best as compared to fighting here where you will be under pressure from the fans and coaches as they will be wanting you to win.
“Outside the country, you will be displaying your talent without pressure. The only pressure will be to bring the belt home. You will be wanting the country to celebrate you when you bring the belt home. But in the ring, it will be normal like you are at training. It’s going to be an easy fight for me.”
Take Money understands that her opponent is going to be difficult to beat, but she says she has been putting in a lot of preparations.
“Preparations are going on well, as I have been in camp since October. I can’t say I am expecting much. The opponent I am going to fight is a tough one. I will try my best as my opponent is a five-time winner, so I can’t say I am going to win or lose, but I will do my best.
“I am glad I have sponsors supporting me in a way no one has ever done before. I am happy with the support and prayers from some of my fans.”
