adminIan Wright went absolutely nuts after Reiss Nelson’s 97th-minute strike saw Arsenal seal an incredible comeback victory over Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Gunners legend, who was watching the game at BBC headquarters with Match of the Day colleagues Gary Lineker and Danny Murphy, leaped out of his seat and exploded in a fit of ecstasy, jumping in circles, falling to the sofa and to the floor and screaming until he was voice was hoarse … you know, football fan stuff.
Magically, the moment was caught on film by Lineker, who pretty much has his phone welded to his hand when the cameras aren’t rolling, it seems.
He even attempted an impromptu interview, asking Wright: “Can I trouble you for a few words?” but the elated former Arsenal striker waved him away, before bellowing “REISSSS” at the top of his lungs.
Supporters on social media were absolutely loving what they saw, with some branding Wright “Arsenal’s biggest fan”.
“Friggin love Wrighty. What a legend. What a day,” one Gunners supporter tweeted, while a second said: “This is my favourite video ever! like this is a man showing pure, unbridled joy and I think we don’t see that often enough.”
“Look at him haha he’s Arsenal’s biggest fan for sure,” commented another.
Nelson’s stunning winner not only completed a miraculous comeback (Arsenal were 2-0 down on 60 mins), but also, crucially, re-established their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Phillip Billing gave the Cherries the lead after just 11 seconds from a beautifully-worked kick-off routine, and things looked bleak for the Gunners when Marcos Senesi doubled the visitors’ advantage just before the hour mark.
But a Thomas Partey goal a few minutes restored some hope, and when Ben White equalised shortly after, the atmosphere in the stadium was at fever pitch. Relegation-battling Bournemouth held on for a whopping 27 minutes, but were eventually, agonisingly downed by a screamer from a corner.
Devastation for Gary O’Neil’s men, but elation in equal measure for Mikel Arteta and Co. who, following their remarkable comeback against Aston Villa last month, secured another victory from the jaws of defeat via an injury-time winner.
