Rome Gasa launches classic sungura nights

Musician Romeo Gasa has launched classic sungura nights where executives and business people who love the music will have the opportunity to network and enjoy their genre in a serene environment. Dubbed “Executive Sungura Night,” the weekly event at Time and Jazz Café is for the upmarket community and the dress code is strictly formal.

“I have realised that the elite who love our type of music are starved because we always perform in dingy places not suitable for their calibre. This is a way for them to interact and make connections while their favourite music is on rotation,” he said.

Gasa performs at the venue every Thursday. The musician recently trimmed his band members from sixteen to eleven; a move he says is meant to reduce the expense bracket. The musician said music is a business hence his hands-on approach on the day-to-day running of his band.

Since storming into the music mainstream after winning the 2007 Chibuku Road to Fame top prize, Romeo Gasa’s star continues to shine. The young and energetic musician has been busy every weekend staging live shows. To further enhance his otherwise promising career, the musician who hails from Chinhoyi relocated to Harare to pursue his music.

“Chinhoyi is a small town and it was becoming difficult to travel to Harare on weekends for shows. Most serious musicians have relocated to Harare for opportunities. Chinhoyi will forever remain my home, I came here to work,” he said.
