RONNIE HANDS HIMSELF TO POLICE

AFTER four days on the run, Ronnie Ngwenya, a manager at one of Harare’s trendiest nightclubs, handed himself to the police yesterday.

He was wanted in connection with allegations that he sexually abused a 13-year-old Form One schoolgirl.

The girl’s parents filed a report at Waterfalls Police Station in Harare on Friday morning, just hours after the teenager raised the complaint.

The schoolgirl was staying at Ngwenya’s home in Harare’s Mainway Meadows neighbourhood.

“He has handed himself to the police at Waterfalls Police Station,” sources told H-Metro last night.

“Maybe, he saw that he had been cornered, after the extensive search from last Friday or he was given good advice that he had to cooperate with the authorities.

“Whatever the case, what is clear is that the noose was tightening and he couldn’t be on the run forever.”

Repeated efforts to get confirmation from the police were unsuccessful last night.

Last Friday, the police visited the trendy night club, which he manages in Harare, but could not locate him.

“He did not come for work as usual, which is surprising given that Friday is the biggest day, in terms of business, at the club,” said a source.

“He must have known that the police would come looking for him there.

“What we are hearing is that he has contacted some ‘powerful people’, which he came to know through his job as a night club manager, asking for them to help him.

“He has been promised some help but they told him that he should get underground, for now, while they try to sort out his case.”

The 13-year-old Form One pupil underwent medical tests on Friday.
