adminLONDON. — Arsenal’s “Mozart” Tomas Rosicky has committed his future to the English Premiership soccer club by agreeing a new 12-month contract. The Czech Republic international, whose current deal expires in the summer, is playing some of the best football of his career and has been rewarded with an extension.
Arsenal confirmed the contract extension in the latest edition of Arsenal magazine.
The extension will be adding one year to his 7½-year association with Arsenal — a truly magnificent feat.
His new deal will see Rosicky remain on his current £4 million salary and includes an option of an additional year.
The 33-year-old was central to the Gunners’ impressive 4-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday, capping his display with a brilliant goal.
“Tomas Rosicky will stay. We have an agreement with him and it will come out soon,” said manager Arsene Wenger.
“I am absolutely adamant he has to stay at the club.
“I think he is one of the players who plays the game of give and move. He is a great accelerator of the game. When the ball comes to him it goes into second gear and that is something I admire in him.
“He always makes things happen, not with individual dribbling but with individual acceleration of his passing and of his runs.
“I think when he arrived here he was a less tactical player and more like Mozart, who is also from Prague, he was a purely creative and offensive player.
“Today he is a real organiser on the pitch as well. I like to have him in the team because he gives a real structure to our team.”
Rosicky’s deal will come as a huge boost to Wenger, who has shown great faith in the midfielder in recent seasons — particularly in his side’s most high-profile matches.
Key defender Per Mertesacker is also set to commit his long-term future to the club by penning a new deal, ensuring Arsenal keep two of their most experienced stars.
The future of Bacary Sagna is less clear cut with the right-back looking increasingly likely to leave when his deal expires in the summer. — Mailonline.
