THE Rotary Club of Msasa in conjunction with the Hindoo Society recently donated blankets to Shearly Cripps Children’s Home in Chikwaka.
Speaking at the donation handover ceremony held at the Rotary Centre in Harare, club president Max Ngangira said the blankets will go a long way in assisting the children.
The club’s director for service projects, Vijay Patel, said the blankets will assist the children beyond the current winter season.
In accepting the donation, Shearly Cripps board chairman, Reverend Julius Zimbudzana, expressed hope that the Rotary Club of Msasa will continue to support the home.
Shearly Cripps Children’s Home is run by the Anglican Diocese of Harare; Church of The Province of Central Africa (CPCA).
The home, which has capacity to house up to 80 children, operates mainly on donations in cash and kind from well-wishers.
Children at the home require food, clothing, toiletries, medicine, linen, books, school uniforms and toys, and vocational training when they are released on attaining the age of 16. The institution is registered with the Department of Social Welfare as a children’s home for orphans and place of safety for vulnerable children.
The home was opened in 1963, through the initiative of Anglican Church priest Reverend Arthur Shearly Cripps.
Representing the Rotary Club at the handover ceremony were Rotarians Dominic Mandeya, Josh Chimhanda, Sam Chikowore, Vijay Patel and Moudy Mugadzaweta.
Rev Zimbudzana, Mary Hatendi, Gillian Nhunhama and Anesu Chinyowa, represented Shearly Cripps.
