THE Zanu PF Youth League will next week host a nationwide talent search competition for young creative Zimbabweans to showcase their prowess during the Heroes’ Day commemorations.
The programme, which is open to all youths aged between 16 and 35, will run under the theme: “Re-living the Liberation Struggle through Creativity”.
In a statement, Zanu PF acting deputy secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Tendai Chirau said show was meant to promote artistic talents among young Zimbabweans.
He said the competition will be aired on national broadcaster ZBC TV.
“The Talent Search Challenge will cover a variety of creative disciplines, which include poetry, visual arts, creative writing (short stories and essays), music, fashion design, dance, drama and a quiz segment,” said Cde Chirau.
“Contestants will get an opportunity to win many prizes on offer for their efforts, which include access to recording and marketing contracts, branded memorabilia and regalia, and event products such as video shoots, musical compilations and the National Heroes Special Magazine.
“As a rule, all challenge submissions should be inspired by, and artistically inclined towards preserving the legacy of the Zimbabwe national liberation struggle, as reflected in the theme,”
He said the show was inspired by the Youth League’s eagerness to identify, nurture and promote artistic talent among Zimbabwean youths.
“Through the medium of “edutainment”, we aim to fuse the creativity of free-born young people in content-making, with the deep lessons to be gained from the legacy of bitter sacrifice, blood, sweat and tears, which brought us freedom, and will forever be cherished,”
Cde Chirau said the challenge will be conducted in all 16 national languages.
“In the spirit of promoting our national oneness, as guided by the visionary leadership of our New Dispensation steward, His Excellency the President, Cde Dr E.D. Mnangagwa, submissions for the challenge shall be accepted and fairly adjudicated in all of our 16 national languages,” he said.
This year’s National Heroes’ Day commemorations will be held on August 9.
