THE Rotary Club of Harare West has reiterated its commitment to improving the health sector in this country.

Patricia Kambarami, the Rotary Club of Harare West president, highlighted the successful refurbishment of the diabetic cubicle at the Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital, the first of its kind in over two decades.

Approximately 40 diabetic children are admitted to the cubicle annually, while weekly outpatient consultations are also held there.

Kambarami said the club hopes to continue the renovation process, with the aim of refurbishing the entire first floor ward.

Additionally, she urged Zimbabweans to join the Rotary Club in serving their communities and fighting diseases such as polio.

“We refurbished the diabetic cubicle in the first-floor ward – which is the first refurbishment in 23 years.

“Sally Mugabe Children’s Hospital is a beacon of hope for sick children, mothers, and the surrounding under-served community in general.

“The cubicle was in a dilapidated and deplorable state thereby compromising, not only high-quality paediatric health care, but the recovery of the children and the well-being of the mothers,” she said.

“It is our wish to continue with our process of transforming the whole first floor ward.

“Brick by brick, we will clean, decorate and repair this hospital into a warm, welcoming, and age-appropriate environment which is clean.”

She said the club is dedicated to fight poliomyelitis.

“Zimbabwe and the world remain unsafe from the devastating effects of this disease, making it more crucial than ever for Rotary members to lead the fight against polio.

“We must play a more significant role in the polio vaccination campaigns led by our Ministry of Health and Child Care, which targets all children under the age of five,” she said.
