Row over US$18k donation at Lydia Chimonyo School

A ROW has erupted at Lydia Chimonyo Girls High School with some parents claiming US$13 000, which was donated to resolve the water crisis, was allegedly misappropriated.

The parents claim the money was donated by United Methodist Church Bishops.

They have written a petition to the responsible authorities, including the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, raising their concerns over the situation at the school.

They claim United Methodist Church Reverend at the school, Jeffery Nemakara, is at the centre of the row.

“Rev Jeffery is now telling us different stories without a clear explanation of what the donated money was used for.

“With the outbreak of cholera in the country, we are afraid that our children will be affected.

“Therefore, we demand that the situation of the water crisis at the school be addressed as a matter of urgency before the school opens,” reads the statement.

Another parent claimed:

“All decisions should include all the stakeholders of the school, for example, the change of church uniforms is a decision that can not be made by an individual but all stakeholders.”

In response Rev Jeffery referred all questions to his supervisor.

“I can’t make a comment, you can talk to my supervisor, that’s all l can say for now,” he said.
