Rugby League final postponed

Most players who turn out for Harare Sports Club and Matabeleland Warriors are part of the Cheetahs and Goshawks squads that are participating at the Middelburg Sevens in South Africa today.

Noddy Kanyangarara, a National Rugby League official confirmed that the final match of the season would now be played next month.

“The final and the third place play-off have been postponed to 6 October and the venue remains Harare Sports Club. The players who are supposed to feature in the final are with the Cheetahs and Goshawks in South Africa.

“After that they will travel to Morocco for World Cup qualifiers so we had no option but to postpone the games,” said Kanyangarara.

Losing semi-finalists Old Hararians and Old Georgians will also engage in the third place play-off which will be the curtain-raiser for the final.

Some of the players who were supposed to play at the weekend include Harare Sports Club’s Tangai Nemadire, Daniel Hondo and Tafadzwa Chitokwindo.

The Matabeleland Warriors trio of Lucky Sithole, Lloyd Machanjaire and Jafet Ndebele are also part of the Cheetahs and Goshawks teams.

Meanwhile, Matabeleland Warriors’ gaffer Rueben Kumpasa said moving the games to a later date would give them ample time to prepare.

“This break will give us time to wind up our preparations and we are going to try to keep our players in shape by playing friendly matches. The past weeks were hectic for us and the players will therefore take a well deserved break,” said Kumpasa.
