FRANCE-BASED senior team national rugby team player, Shingi Katsvere, has joined hands with Stacey Leigh Scott to establish the Sports Discipleship Organisation.
The 26-year-old Club Rugby Auxerre player, who hails from Mbare, seeks to give others hope.
The organisation completed its registration early last month.
Already they have donated kits and offered mentorship programmes to Shield Rugby Academy, which is based in Mbare, with the help of The Sausage Factory.
Katsvere said he was still looking for more partners to work with to change the lives of marginalised boys and girls.
“As an organisation, we are still at our infant levels. In terms of funds, we are not yet solid and we are appealing to the business community to come and join hands.
“Previously we worked with Sausage Factory, which purchased jerseys that we handed over to the boys in Mbare.
“Of course, we have started with Mbare because of my strong roots there.
“But, we want to see every talent in the country getting a fair, equal chance to showcase their abilities without hindrances so we are going to expand and reach many others.”
He added:
“At one point, I failed to go on a trip to South Africa for trials because of a lack of finances and I was replaced by another student who could afford it.
“I am coming forward saying every other talent should have the same equal opportunity despite their background.
“And I am happy that people like Stacey have been supporting me.”
Katsvere, who is a devout Christian, said he lives his life for God.
“I can’t live without God as I grew up in an area that was rife with prostitution, drug and substance abuse, and other criminal activities that could easily swallow you.
“But God showed me the light and I managed to be here in France studying and doing what I am doing.
“If I don’t realise how God positioned people in my life it will be unjust.”
