MUTAPA Energy Resources chief executive officer Mr Innocent Rukweza has been appointed chairman of the Lithium Association of Zimbabwe.

In a statement, Mutapa Energy Resources’ board, management and staff expressed pride in Mr Rukweza’s achievement and confidence in his ability to steer the country’s lithium industry towards greater growth and competitiveness.

“We extend our sincere congratulations to Mr Innocent Rukweza on his appointment as chairman of the Lithium Association of Zimbabwe.

“We are proud of this remarkable achievement and wish him every success in his new role as he leads and advances the growth of Zimbabwe’s lithium industry,” the company said.

The appointment comes at a time when Zimbabwe is strengthening its position as one of Africa’s leading lithium producers, driven by increasing global demand for critical minerals used in electric vehicle batteries and renewable energy technologies.

Industry stakeholders have increasingly emphasized the need for coordinated leadership to promote investment, value addition, sustainable mining practices, and policy engagement as the sector continues to expand.

Mr Rukweza’s elevation to the chairmanship is expected to bring valuable industry experience and strategic direction to the association as it works to unlock the full potential of Zimbabwe’s lithium resources.

His appointment also underscores the growing role of local industry leaders in shaping the future of one of the country’s most important emerging mineral sectors.

With Zimbabwe seeking to maximize benefits from its vast lithium deposits, industry observers will be watching closely as the association charts its agenda under Mr Rukweza’s leadership.
