Zimbabwean artist and coach known for defying cultural taboos and empowering women through music and art, Rumbi weNgoma is unwell and seeking medical assistance.
Rumbie a musician and bandleader who has gained recognition in Zimbabwe and has performed internationally.
She combines traditional instruments like the mbira with modern sounds in her music.
She is currently facing health challenges, including Diabetic Macular Edema, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Partial Blindness and Internal Bleeding and is seeking help with medical treatment.
In an interview with Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Rumbie weNgoma said she can barely move and that she is now partially blind.
“l was sick. l used to be in and out of hospitals and doctors but nothing was diagnosed believe me. However l kept getting sick.
“After a series of migraines the doctors finally diagnosed me on the 17 of February. They said l have Diabetic Macular Edema.
“The doctor said I need injections in each eye, they said up to six it all depends with the body. So they said six injections roughly in each eye,” said Rumbie.
“However, my situation is different l need like 600 injections. It’s expensive and you have to buy the injections.
“After injection there is medication that l use for a week so it’s so much medication yet l can’t even pay for one at the moment.
“I’m on diabetes medication. Twice a day i take my tablets for diabetes but then I am also partially blind.
“l often get headaches but they are not as bad as before.”
She disclosed that the doctors said she also had a retinal bleeding that caused migraines and blindness.
“I never had an eyesight problem. I remember waking up one day and l couldn’t see nor move. The doctors told me that my sugar levels were messing up my eyesight.”
“My retina bled and it caused me to lose my eye sight. It’s really bad especially at night.
“I am currently on medication, my blood pressure goes up…”
