Runde Rural District Council (RDC) is struggling to recover $1,2 million in outstanding water bills and levies from ratepayers, as debt collection strategies have failed to yield the much-needed results, an official has said.

The district’s finance committee chairperson, Cllr Morgan Msipa, said council was owed a lot of money by residents, businesses and mining companies.

“For 2017, we are owed $409 210, while for the previous year, 2016, we are owed $824 105, he said. In total, big and small mines owe council $377 130, shops owe $182 025, farmers owe $112 314, parastatals owe $126 582, stand sales owe $124 388, while other debtors owe the rest.”
