A SOLITARY first half goal from Clive Rupiya meant Rodwell Dhlakama’s return to Greenfuel Arena was a sour one as Hwange lost their Castle Lager Premier League match yesterday.

It extinguished their slim chances of survival.

Hwange still have a chance but they will need to win their last two games against Highlanders at home and Bikita Minerals and hope other teams in relegation trouble drop points.

Greenfuel’s decision making in the final third was poor but they got the goal which made all the difference in the 37th minute.

Rupiwa rose highest to head home Garikai Dematsika’s cross.

Greenfuel assistant coach Taurai Mangwiro was happy with how his charges applied themselves at home after a 0-4 drubbing against Highlanders on Sunday.

“I am happy with how we redeemed ourselves after that heavy defeat against Highlanders. We need to concentrate more on ourselves and collect as many points as possible because the last thing we need is to rely on the results from other centres”, said Mangwiro.

Hwange assistant coach Njabulo Dube was disappointed with the result.

“It was a game of two halves but I think we were very respectful of the home team. We made a mistake and conceded a cheap goal.

“After that, I want to applaud the boys for coming out of the shells trying to express themselves.

“Football is a game of scoring more than your opponents, we got our chances and we were not clinical while they utilised their chance after our mistake and that was the difference between the two teams.

“We still have a chance but we will have to rely on how teams we are in the same position with fare in their matches. We just need to win our games and the rest will take care of itself.”
