The birth of triplets is a rare blessing, but for a Rusape family struggling to make ends meet, the joy quickly turned into anxiety after the unexpected arrival of three babies brought immediate financial challenges.
Ms Agatha Dahwa (31) of Denzva village near Nyazura, Manicaland Province, gave birth to two boys and a girl on February 19 after she had been admitted at Rusape District Hospital the previous day.
She is now a mother of six, having previously delivered twins in 2014 and another child in 2020.
Hospital medical superintendent Dr Stewart Karembo confirmed the birth of the triplets, saying the mother and her three babies are in stable condition following a successful C-section.
“There were no complications for the three children and their mother before and after the theatre procedure. The operation went on well and the whole theatre team is happy after the successful operation,” he said.
However, Dr Karembo highlighted that the triplets require formula milk, which is a challenge considering the family’s financial position.

Fortunately, Zanu PF Makoni District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) Secretary for Lands Cde Shepherd Nyika came through for the triplets after he supplied groceries, clothes, diapers and cash for them.
He has also pledged to support the triplets going forward.
Meanwhile, the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe Rusape Circuit also assisted the family with clothing and diapers worth about US$600 and pledged support during the children’s first six months.
Ms Dahwa said she was discharged from hospital on Sunday and is in good health.
“When I first received the news that I was going to have triplets, I was shocked, but I later became happy after realising these are gifts from God,” she said.
She thanked Cde Nyika and the Methodist Church for their support.
“Cde Nyika came through for my triplets and l am really grateful. He also assisted us with transport back home,” she said. “As for the Church, they are indeed doing God’s work.”
The father of the triplets, Mr Conwell Nyamutena (46) also thanked Cde Nyika and said the assistance came at a time when the family was facing financial challenges.
Cde Nyika, a farmer and an entrepreneur, said he is honoured that the triplets were born in his constituency.
“When I heard the news, I rushed to the hospital to meet the parents and assist in any way I could. I will continue to support the children,” he said.
