Rusere leads BAZ

Business Writer
fBC Bank Limited managing director Webster Rusere has assumed the Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) leadership following the end of Dr Charity Jinya’s tenure, whom he deputised.

According to BAZ’s constitution, the post of president is held for two years after which the incumbent’s deputy takes charge of the reins to steer the banks’ lobby group.

Dr Jinya, whose tenure has come to an end was elected BAZ president in 2016, taking over from Agribank managing director Sam Malaba. Her tenure coincided with the banking sector crisis characterized by long queues in banks due to cash shortages.

The new president – Rusere – started his banking career in 1982 and has vast experience in corporate, retail, treasury and international banking.
He has worked for international and regional banking institutions within and outside Zimbabwe at executive level.

Prior to his appointment as Managing Director of FBC Bank in June 2011, Webster was the Managing Director of FBC Building Society for five years.

NMBZ chief executive officer Benefit Washaya takes over as the new vice president and will succeed Rusere.

Washaya commenced his banking career with Barclays Bank in 1978 where he held general management positions including director’s assistant, Risk Management and Business Centre director.
