Rusike aims to improve

Sports Reporter
ZIMBABWE international Evans Rusike says he wants to concentrate on growing his game at Maritzburg United after he agreed to a contract extension with the South African Premiership side. Rusike, who has reportedly been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, effectively ended speculation surrounding his future after the Team of Choice exercised the two-year option as per the player’s current contract.

His deal with Maritzburg United was coming to an end and Chiefs and Pirates had been looking to swoop on the lanky forward.

Maritzburg, however, moved swiftly to exercise a clause in the contract which gave them the first option to negotiate terms.

Rusike told the club’s website that he is pleased to stay put and wants to improve.

“I was happy to join the club last season and help them to survive relegation. Now that the club has exercised the option, I have to stay focused. I have a job here. It’s an opportunity for me to keep improving on my game,” said Rusike.

The club’s marketing and communications manager Brian Zuma was happy with the developments.

Zuma said they never had plans to sell the striker.

“Evans is our property and we’re still expecting a lot from him. He is not for sale until the time is right, and if and when that happens, proper channels will have to be followed,” said Zuma.
