YADAH Stars forward Evans Rusike feels this will be a tougher Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season as rival clubs have significantly bolstered their squads.
The veteran striker, who has had stints in South Africa with clubs like Maritzburg United and SuperSport United, believes the league’s competitiveness will reach new heights this year.
Rusike, a key figure in Yadah’s attack, noted the improvements made by teams across the league, noting that the increased competition will raise the bar for all players.
“We are expecting more competition in the league this season. Clubs have been working hard to improve,” he said.
“Some have decided to have low-key profiles in their business but I can tell you that many clubs have done some incredible work.”
Rusike is confident in Yadah’s preparations for the upcoming campaign.
“Here at Yadah, I can tell you that incredible work has been done, and we are ready for the new season.
“We have been preparing well and so far, so good.”
Last season, Yadah enjoyed a solid campaign, with Rusike scoring six goals.
“Last season, we enjoyed our football as a team and we are expecting nothing short of that this season,” he said.
“The squad has been renewed with a lot of exciting youngsters who are also eager to show their capabilities.
“Personally, I want to improve and help the club with more goals.
“We are seeking a good start and it will be important to hit the ground running.
“We are ready for the challenge. Bring it on,” said Rusike.
The league has seen a surge in investment and player recruitment during pre-season.
Clubs like defending champions Simba Bhora, Manica Diamonds, FC Platinum, Ngezi Platinum, Green Fuel, TelOne and newboys Scottland have upped their game.
