THE Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has commenced work on electrifying the Jantia and Hangani areas in Rusitu Valley.
This comes hard on the heels of mobile phone network connection in the same communities.
Chimanimani East constituency Member of the House of Assembly, Cde Joshua Saco said: “This will go a long way in reducing deforestation in the area as well as allow for electricity connection to Hangani Primary School and Jantia community.
“Recently, NetOne connected Chikukwa, Jantia and Hangani communities to mobile phone network coverage as well. This is a great achievement for us.
“There was resistance for a long time due to projections of low revenue and no guarantee of return of investment. Government had to intervene through Postal and Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ). We really want to thank Government for that.”
Cde Sacco also confirmed the resumption of repairs to the scenic route from Chimanimani to Cashel via Chikukwa.
“Work on the Chimanimani to Cashel via Chikukwa road is set to commence in the next few weeks.
“A site visit has already been conducted and we await the coming in of the contractor to commence work. This is an alternative access route in and out of Chimanimani in the event of another natural disaster,” said Cde Sacco.
