Russia calls for increased international cooperation to tackle global threats

Russia has emphasised the need for more international cooperation, as global threats cannot be solved by a single country.

Russia’s Ambassador to Mauritius, Irada Avtandilovna Zeynalova, made this statement last Thursday while hosting participants of the International Energy Conference at the Russian Embassy offices.

The conference, which ran under the theme “Regional to Global,” aimed to address energy challenges in the global south and explore solutions.

It brought together participants from Russia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Mauritius, Kenya, and Zimbabwe.

She explained that while the 1990s brought relative peace, the world has since seen a shift, with new peace threats emerging.

“I have known him [Global Energy Association Dr Sergey Brilev] since 1993, which was a trying time for Russia. I thought we were becoming global, everything was open, there were no threats anymore, no danger, and we were united. But times have changed,” said Ambassador Zeynalova.

“We are still here, and we still understand and hope that global platforms will help us solve these global dangers. These are new threats that cannot be solved by one country. We must unite to save this planet. We don’t have another planet.”

Dr Brilev said it was his hope that Ambassador Zeynalova would strengthen the relationship between Moscow and Port Louis.
