Redcliff Municipality is set to renovate Rutendo Stadium at a cost of $20 000.
Redcliff Mayor Councillor Freddy Kapuya said the stadium had been lying idle for a long time and if renovated it may boost the local authority’s coffers.
“Rutendo Stadium can come in handy in terms of revenue collection if we renovate it and hire it out,” he said. “There are a lot of sporting activities that might want to be held in the town, but due to lack of facilities, they go elsewhere.”
Cllr Kapuya said renovations will include laying a new lawn, repairing the ablution facilities and changing rooms, as well as the precast wall, among other touch-ups.
Plans are also underway to drill a borehole to curb water challenges at the 15 000-seater stadium.
“We have big plans like sinking a borehole and repairing floodlights so that games can be played during the night,” said Cllr Kapuya.
