TWENTY-year-old Ruvarashe Hannah Katelyn Muchetu, known as Ruvah, has announced her arrival on Zimbabwe’s gospel scene with the release of her debut album, Asithuli.

A University of Zimbabwe student studying Social Innovation and Community Development, Ruvah represents a new wave of gospel artistes blending deep faith with youthful energy and a community-driven message.

Her love for music began during childhood car rides, harmonising with her father to country classics, moments that nurtured her passion for storytelling and vocal expression. In high school, she served as Choir President, sharpening both her leadership and musical skills.

At New Creation Church in Bulawayo, Ruvah became an active member of the Praise and Worship team, viewing music as ministry rather than performance. Over the past year, she worked with her church community on a recording project that culminated in the February 4 release of the seven-track album.

Asithuli, meaning “We won’t be silent”, is inspired by Luke 19:40, where Jesus declares that if His disciples remain silent, the stones will cry out.

“The album is about exalting God and calling Christians to proclaim His name boldly. It carries a groovy vibe to reach young people,” said Ruvah.

Tracks such as Uthembekile, Our Hope Is in Your Name and You Delivered highlight her clear vocals and heartfelt delivery. The project features lyrics by fellow church member Mandlenkosi Nkomo and was engineered at Oasis Studios by Larynx and produced by Sikhululiwe “S’coo” Madonko.

Ruvah admitted the project pushed her beyond self-doubt.

“Working on this was a giant leap. I usually back S’coo when she leads at church and had to overcome scepticism about my ability. I’m grateful the team pushed me,” she said.

Balancing lectures and studio sessions also tested her discipline, but she describes the album as a milestone marking her transition from choir member to professional artiste.

Drawing early inspiration from country legends Dolly Parton and Don Williams, Ruvah infuses storytelling into her gospel sound. Now available on digital platforms, Asithuli signals the emergence of a young artiste determined to make an impact through faith and music. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
