Ruwa Town Council has fired its engineer Anthony Mujuru with immediate effect on a litany of allegations, including failure to properly take charge of the construction of the new council offices.
Eng Mujuru had been fighting his suspension from work since last year.
Ruwa Town secretary Mr Kumbirai Madanhi confirmed the sacking.
The Herald is in possession of a charge sheet with allegations that led to Eng Mujuru’s sacking such as conduct arising out of the Nora Valley project, being failure to produce designs and failure to co-operate in the arbitration proceedings and failure to follow the procedures set out in the State Procurement Act in respect of the Chiremba Road project and Tarisa Road project.
The other charge was the abuse of vehicle Toyota registration AAE 7111 donated by Zimfund and failure to supervise construction of Zimre Park School.
The council’s code of conduct provides for a penalty of dismissal where there has been a guilty verdict on the basis of conduct inconsistent with the terms and conditions of employment.
The local authority said while such a penalty was not mandatory, it was the most appropriate penalty where there has been an undermining of the employer-employee relationship.
“In this case, the relationship between the employer and employee has clearly broken down not only due to the serious nature of the employee’s misconduct but also due to the employee’s expertise and advisory position which can no longer be relied upon,” reads the document.
“As such having exercised our discretion in light of the facts and evidence provided to us and having had regard to the relevant legislation, we recommend that the appropriate penalty in this matter is that of dismissal from employment from February 24, 2020.”
