Ruwa Local Board officials will conduct door-to-door inspections over the coming weeks to verify compliance with local regulations governing registered cottages and dog ownership.
In a notice, Ruwa Local Board public relations officer Ms Josephine Mwaitirwa said the exercise aims to ensure that secondary residential structures comply with safety standards and are properly registered with the local authority.
“Compliance officers will also check for valid dog licences and ensure that the number of pets kept at each property complies with municipal bylaws,” read the notice.
Residents, she said, are required to grant council officials access to their premises and produce any relevant documentation requested during the inspections.
Teams conducting the exercise will carry official council identification cards and their national IDs. Residents are advised to request proof of identity before allowing anyone onto their property, council said.
“Council appreciates your cooperation and adherence to community standards as we work to maintain safety and order across our municipality.”
