Rising South Africa-based musical group Insika Yothando is targeting a breakthrough in its homeland, Zimbabwe, as it repositions its brand.
The trio – Alicia Nyoni (19), Nozithelo Mntimande (25) and Mkhululi Nyathi (29) – blends Afro-pop with poetry, placing love at the centre of its artistic expression.
The group is eyeing collaborations with Matojeni Melo Maniacs, Teekay Mxoexic and South African duo Mafikizolo, and plans to launch its debut album in both Zimbabwe and South Africa this year.
Manager Gugulethu Nkomo revealed that the group recently recorded a new single, It’s My Wedding Day, at Nozithelo’s wedding ceremony. The song is set for release soon.
“We’re still finding our feet and currently fund everything ourselves. Our goal is to create music that makes people feel seen, understood and hopeful. If one song helps someone believe in love again, then we’ve achieved our purpose,” she said.
Nkomo said the group is also planning to relocate from South Africa to build a stronger local fan base.
“For the past few years, we’ve been based in South Africa, where we experienced both success and challenges. We now feel it’s time to take a break from foreign soil and try our luck at home,” she said.
“Love is at the centre of what we do, the joy, pain, healing and hope. We draw from everyday experiences and use music and poetry to remind people that love is still powerful and worth believing in.”
Beyond the stage, members of Insika Yothando also serve as vocalists at their respective churches, Faith Family Church and the SDA Church. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
