THE Highlanders South Africa Supporters chapter has pledged to assist the son of the late Bosso supporter, Thembelenkosini Hloli. Speaking at a handover of cash donated by members of the chapter at the Highlanders offices last Thursday, Khumbulani Moyo, the secretary of the grouping said they were willing to support the 11-month-old child until a stage when their backing was no longer required. The money was given to Hloli’s widow Nothando Moyo. The child is named after his departed father.
“The South African chapter has resolved to adopt Hloli’s child, we will support him up to a point when our assistance is no longer required,’’ said Moyo.
Also present at the handover was Highlanders chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede and the chapter’s organising secretary Abel Khumalo.
Hloli died in August last year from injuries sustained in violent clashes between Highlanders and Dynamos supporters after a match between the two teams at Barbourfields Stadium.
Six Dynamos fans were arrested for his alleged murder but they were set free on bail and the matter has since stalled in court.
It is not the first time that the Highlanders supporters based in the neighbouring country have shown generosity towards Hloli’s child as in July ahead of the clash against Dynamos in Bulawayo they also handed over stuff meant for the toddler.
