The cream of South African gospel music artistes will next month descend on Gwanda for an explosive three- day music festival. Artistes, among them the queen of gospel music, Rebecca Malope, Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Lusanda Spiritual Group, Tshepiso Motaung, Dumi Mkokstad, Bethusile Mcinga and jazz legend Tshepo Tshola are expected at the festival which starts on August 28.
The festival which will be at Phelandaba Stadium, will be free and as such thousands of gospel music lovers are expected to attend.
The festival is likely to attract fans from as far as Bulawayo and other areas around Gwanda.
This will be the first time for Gwanda town to play host to big names in the music industry in South Africa. Some local artistes among them Gwanda-based Judith Moyo, who is also a businesswoman, will share the stage with the SA artistes.
The festival is being organised by businessman, Justice Maphosa who is from Gwanda but based in SA.
The festival will definitely put Gwanda on the map given the calibre of the artistes lined up.
Maphosa, 40, the chief executive officer of BigTime Strategic, will pay all the expenses for more than 100 artistes from SA.
A meeting with the artistes in preparation for the music gala was held at a hotel in Pretoria last Thursday.
All the artistes will be flown to Zimbabwe in private jets.
