LIMPOPO. – South African police have launched a double-murder investigation after two men were found dead at the Limpopo Truck Stop in Beitbridge.
The victims, aged 51 and 32, were found dead with gunshot wounds next to a vehicle bearing Zimbabwean registration plates.
The shooting incident took place on Sunday, and no arrests have been made.
Limpopo police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Masekela Magoro said police received a report of a shooting incident at the truck stop and immediately responded to the scene.
“Upon arrival, members found two males lying next to a Toyota Wish bearing Zimbabwean registration plates.
“Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds.”
Magoro said Emergency Medical Services personnel attended the scene and certified both victims dead.
“The deceased had sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.”
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear and are part of the ongoing police investigation, Magoro said.
During the investigation, police recovered an unlicensed firearm with no serial number.
“Police subsequently recovered an unlicensed mm firearm with no serial number.”
The firearm was discovered after the vehicle was handed over to the wife of one of the deceased.
“It contained one magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition.”
Magoro said an additional enquiry docket had been opened in connection with the recovery of the firearm. – IOL
