Ndlovu.
‘Suppa Star’, as he was popularly known by his legion of supporters, was gunned down by a Somali shop owner in Diepsloot, an informal settlement in Johannesburg.
He was a member of the Mlambo Express Band.
The other victim is a South African national.
The Somali shop owner allegedly gunned down the two and injured another passerby whom he accused of being robbers.
Zimbabwe’s consular general to South Africa, Mr Godfrey Magwenzi confirmed that he had been notified by South African police.
Mr Magwenzi said Ndlovu’s relatives were still processing documents to facilitate the repatriation of his body to Zimbabwe.
The shooting of the two triggered a lot of violence as residents in the squatter camp went on the rampage looting shops owned by Somalis and Pakistan nationals.
South African police had to heavily deploy in the area since Sunday.
“We have confirmed one of the victims as a Zimbabwean. At the moment we are assisting his family with the repatriation issues. From what we are getting from the police, the two went to the shop where they were selling CDs from their vehicle.
“An argument then ensued between them and the Somali businessman when he tried to chase them away. He later rushed to his shop where he took a firearm and shot at them,” he said.
The Somali shop owner has appeared in court following the murder.
It is understood that 80 percent of people staying in Diepsloot are Zimbabwean nationals.
“We will have another meeting on June 11 with officials from the Limpopo provincial government and our embassy so that we find a lasting solution to our problem,” he said.
