JOHANNESBURG — President Jacob Zuma says South African Airways (SAA) is the face and symbol of South Africa and he will pay special attention to ensure it never shuts down.
Zuma visited the SAA head office in Kempton Park yesterday where he addressed workers and met with the board.
The president, who also toured Eskom, says government has a vested interest in seeing the businesses succeed.
Zuma says he is eager to see SAA’s turnaround implemented, as government is the majority shareholder of the company.
He says the airline is promoting the country across the globe and he’s decided to work closely with the company to strengthen the business.
“Once I see the flag at the tail of an SAA plane, I always have a feeling that man we are here. We have arrived.”
Zuma says government has no intention of selling SAA and never will, despite calls for privatisation.
Board chairperson Dudu Myeni assured the president the airline is making progress due to the hard work of employees. — News24
