Sabi Mine property attached

ZVISHAVANE based gold mine, Sabi Mine, had its property removed from its premises over an unsettled $172,000 bill. The gold mine, a subsidiary of the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC), had its property attached by the Zvishavane Deputy Sheriff in April over a debt owed to a local construction company, Drummond Transport and Quarry Construction.

The Deputy Sheriff in April attached a company bus, two Toyota Hilux vehicles, a Nissan Hardbody truck and a Nissan UD to settle the debt the gold miner    owed Drummond Transport and    Quarry    Construction for services rendered.

Sabi had hired excavators and other mining machinery from Drummond in April last year.
The mining company allegedly failed to pay for the hired machinery and was dragged to court in March this year.

A lawyer representing Drummond, Hebert Tafa of Tafa and Partners Legal Practitioners confirmed the attachment of the mine’s property by Zvishavane Deputy Sheriff.

He said this followed a High Court order granted in favour of his client.
Said Tafa: “I can confirm that part of the property that had been attached by the Zvishavane Deputy Sheriff was removed from Sabi Mine premises on Friday last week. However, luxury vehicles are still to be removed as company management has been ducking the deputy sheriff but we hope they will surrender them soon.”

Last year Sabi contracted Drummond to provide excavators and other mining machinery.
Since April last year, Sabi has been failing to pay Drummond the money for the hired machinery.
