ZIMBABWE Sables vice-captain, Tichafara Makwanya, believes the combined training sessions between his side and the Cheetahs will help improve the pace of the XVs team.
The Sables are preparing for their final Africa Cup Group A1 match while the Cheetahs are preparing for the Olympic qualifiers.
The Sables are set to get into camp next Thursday.
The two Zimbabwean sides had an opportunity of training together on Wednesday.
“I’m very glad that we’ve been combined with the Cheetahs squad. We started off our preparations on a lower note and most of the players were absent but now it’s better since everyone is aware that we don’t have a lot of time,” said Makwanya.
“The Cheetahs will be really helpful in improving the pace as well as the skills for us.
“This is a great initiative and most of the Sables liked the idea. Beating Namibia will not be easy so we definitely need to get everyone into the rhythm.
“The Namibians are a good side and the only way to beat a stronger side is to improve on our pace, skill and fitness and continue training hard in the remaining two weeks,” said Makwanya.
Cheetahs coach Daniel Hondo also hailed the combined sessions.
“Both the two teams have big matches to play, as the Sevens we have high intensity and so I believe it will help the Sables.
“It’s now been a month since we started training and I still feel we need to improve on a number of areas,” said Hondo.
